Som straff och på något sätt en ironisk gest mot demokratins vagga Grekland, så tar EU bort rösträtten för Grekland inför ett kommande EU-möte nästa månad. Lissabon-fördraget visar sin sanna funktion!

The council of EU finance ministers said Athens must comply with austerity demands by March 16 or lose control over its own tax and spend policies altogether. It if fails to do so, the EU will itself impose cuts under the draconian Article 126.9 of the Lisbon Treaty in what would amount to economic suzerainty.

While the symbolic move to suspend Greece of its voting rights at one meeting makes no practical difference, it marks a constitutional watershed and represents a crushing loss of sovereignty.

Greece should lose voting privileges in the European Union if it gets a bailout from the 27-nation bloc, said the head of the business caucus of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union.

As one of the EU’s 27 members, Greece would be able to block demands accompanying a rescue if the conditions are “too tough,” Kurt Lauk, the head of the CDU’s Economic Council, said yesterday in a phone interview.

Givetvis är Grekland inte det enda landet som kommer att vara ”mottagare” av ekonomiskt stöd framöver. I kö står resten av ”PIIGS”-länderna. Ska de också förlora rösträtten? Vad händer om Storbritannien hamnar i trångmål? Ni vet nog vad jag tänker på, nu när andra kreditkrisen närmar sig.
